With Alarm 1, the switch detects a low flow scenario anywhere between zero.01 and 3 ft per second FPS (0.003–0.9 m per second MPS). If an Alarm 2 occurs because the feed line to the pump is operating dry, this would be an emergency sign to close down the pump immediately because the bearings now see gasoline as an alternative of a liquid as a heat switch media. In such conditions, the temperature of the bearings could rise very fast. Using a flow switch prevents permanent injury to the pump’s bearings.
